The evening will begin with our host Robert Mailer Anderson with a Gramophone Concert, playing a selection of 78’s from the era (including Kay Starr, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday).

Bay Area Arts Leader Jon Moscone will introduce the film All About Eve (1950).

All About Eve is a brutal backstage story of ruthless ambition in the entertainment industry revolving around aspiring actress Eve Harrington (Academy Award winning actress Anne Baxter) who shows up in the dressing room of Broadway mega-star Margo Channing, (11 time Academy Award nominated Bette Davis in her greatest role?) and the wheel of time, sexism, stereotypes, opportunism, and camp spins. Margo takes Eve under her wing, and then who’s career, craft, and love life will thrive? Or survive?

All About Eve is the only film in Oscar history to receive four female acting nominations (Davis and Baxter as Best Actress, Celeste Holm and Thelma Ritter as Best Supporting Actress and Marilyn Monroe in one of her earliest roles!") and, at the time, a record 14 nominations at the 23rd Academy Awards. It won six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, as well as Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for Joseph Mankiewicz's second consecutive wins in both categories. He won six during his legendary career. No wins for the women!!!
